right away how much I’ll end up paying, and others say they’ll only know after the work is done?
It’s not always convenient, because of course I plan a certain budget for the repair and all that, and it’s unlikely I’ll run out of money. But personally, I feel more at ease knowing how much I’ll pay in advance. Or at least having a rough idea.
Sure, everyone says "I don’t care how much I pay as long as it’s done well", but deep down there’s always that thought about how much it’ll end up being. I actually tried to figure out which option is better for which situations, even found this article with a comparison https://bens.plumbing/blog/commission-based-plumbers-vs-hourly-plumbers-which-is-better-for-you/, so maybe it does make sense to just decide what works best for you. Ideally, of course, they’d show up fast, fix stuff well, and charge fair money.
