Where are Thorens turntables made? Thorens is one of the oldest names in entertainment electronics, and is renowned for its high-quality record players. Founded in Sainte-Croix, Switzerland in 1883, Thorens relocated to Lahr, Germany in the 1960s, before returning to its Swiss roots under the guidance of Heinz Rohrer. Today, the company's CEO is Gunter Kuerten, an industry insider with years of experience in the industry.

Despite this brief history, Thorens continues to develop its turntables. The brand has made significant strides over the years. In the 1980s, Thorens started developing turntables without an aluminum outer platter. These records played back perfectly but had a tendency to become scratched after a while, and they required a fine adjustment to avoid rubbing the inner platter. Thorens also changed the way that their turntables work and added a cassette deck and a receiver. In the 1990s, they added a number of speakers to their lineup. This was also when they stopped cooperating with Schneider-Rundfunkwerke and started producing their own turntables. These models are TD 104/105 and TD 110/115 and are both in the same price range as the TD 160. However, they differ in design and look

Since its humble beginnings in 1928, Thorens has become synonymous with high-end audio. They were the first company to manufacture electric turntables, and later launched a series of audiophile turntables, which have been in production for decades. These record players were highly regarded and sought after as high-end audio equipment, and their sound quality remains impressive today. Initially, the company used a belt drive to drive the cartridge, but in the 1950s, the company changed the design to use a sub-chassis suspension system. These turntables were based on the same principle as Linn Sondek's LP12 and TD160.
