However where one of the pair is creating a cathartic fantasy to help them cope with young adulthood, it slowly transpires that the other is considering making their films a reality. For Peres Smith, the strength of Johnson's film is that he doesn't in any way present causes for this kind of violence so much as an exploration of the "conditions that allow it to happen,": "a lot of it is [to do with] male rage," she says. "There are women who have also done this but it's obvious that this is a [problem of] young male rage, and probably a young white male rage would be more accurate."
