The attack happened after Ramle won the league championship game 81-68.However, during the closing minutes of the game, Jackson and Gourevitch got into a fight and shouted insults at each other.The fight spilled into the parking lot where Jackson sought out Gourevitch and then punched her on the nose and broke it.Jackson's passport has been confiscated and she was scheduled to leave Israel the following day to join her team, Chicago Sky, who are scheduled to begin their first preseason game against Phoenix at home.
The Sky have suspended Jackson indefinitely. Michael Alter, the Chicago Sky owner, said the organization was shocked and embarrassed by Jackson's behavior, more so because it was completely out of character. He further added that there was no place in the WNBA and Chicago Sky for this kind of behavior.
Team officials spoke with Jackson's agent who confirmed that Jackson struck Gourevitch after the game.Jackson is due to appear in court on May 3 and Gourevitch has filed a lawsuit seeking $20,000 in damages.In a statement released by Jackson's Israeli team, Jackson has apologized to Gourevitch for her behavior while Ramle chairman Shmulik Levkovitz said that the incident had tarnish not just the championship game but also the entire basketball season in Israel.
